THE UNIVERSITY
The Bizkaia campus can be considered the origin of the present-day University of the Basque Country – Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea.
It was founded in response to the need for a Faculty of Medicine in Bilbao due to the demographic increase that the territory of Bizkaia had experienced.
The University of Bilbao was established in 1968, simultaneously with the creation of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science.
It was the immediate predecessor of the University of the Basque Country – Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, integrating the Faculty of Political, Economic and Commercial Sciences, which has been operating since 1955 in the Sarriko district.
CAMPUS SURROUNDINGS
The university campus is surrounded by a well-tended green space offering magnificent views and nature walks.
Take a stroll through magnificent landscapes and green trails, visit the Arboretum, an orchard that features all kinds of tree species from different parts of the world, or surrender to the Bosque de La Vida, a tribute to the people who donated their bodies to science.
You can also come and spend the day and have a picnic or enjoy the wide range of catering services, including the Leioa Catering School.
As well as being a training centre, you can also book a table and enjoy its varied menus.
